The Quality Forum and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) have announced the formation of the Health Information Technology (IT) Advisory Council, which supports the development of health IT-related strategies in the state. The council consists of 17 health care stakeholders and serves as the voice of Louisiana’s health care providers, payers and purchasers, offering their professional expertise to help drive innovation and advancements in the state’s health IT infrastructure. The LaPOST Coalition is planning a community-wide health care event this fall in New Roads. City leaders have partnered with the Coalition to host a health fair and community forum on Sept. 16 at the Scott Civic Center. Attendees will receive free health screenings and resources to help guide them through the advance care planning process. Following the fair, Susan Nelson, MD, LaPOST Coalition Chair, will lead a community conversation on ways to overcome the barriers of LaPOST implementation and best practices for honoring patients’ wishes. 05-14-deadlineCMS Proposed Rule On Stage 3 Meaningful Use

The rule proposed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for Stage 3 Meaningful Use will allow more flexibility for providers working to qualify for the electronic health record (EHR) incentive payments. The proposal establishes a single reporting period based on the calendar year, reduces the number of objectives to eight and gives providers the option to start Stage 3 in either 2017 or 2018.
