What is LaPOST?

Approved by the Louisiana Legislature during the 2010 legislative session as ACT 954, the LaPOST document is a means by which a person may communicate his/her wishes concerning medical treatment with a physician's order.

 

The LaPOST document is:
  • A model program for end-of-life care
  • A best practice model using evidence-based medicine
  • Transferable along health care settings
  • Complementary with advance directives
  • Voluntary
  • Not biased for or against treatment
  • Recommended by the End of Life Workgroup of the Louisiana Health Care Redesign Collaborative
  • Endorsed by the Louisiana State Medical Society (2006)
  • Endorsed by the National Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) Paradigm Task Force (2012)
