The LaPOST Coalition will host a kick-off meeting to help nursing facility staff discuss and document residents' end-of-life preferences for medical treatment and goals of care as well as incorporate this planning into existing facility operations. The workshop will feature a special overview, educational videos and training materials for participants to bring back to their facilities.
The event marks the launch of a year-long project that will provide training opportunities to assist nursing facility staff with teaching and mentoring other staff members about advance care planning and the LaPOST program. The videos and materials that will be presented are core components of an instructional toolkit that will be available to nursing facilities across the state. Participants will receive copies of the DVD and the planning tools. The goal is for all of Louisiana's nursing facilities to become LaPOST Ready.
Susan Nelson, MD, Chair of the LaPOST Coalition, will lead the workshop. As medical director for Senior Services for the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, Nelson is an advocate for senior health on local, state and national levels.
Please join us for this informative presentation about advance care planning and LaPOST – the beneficiaries will be all residents, families and health care providers of Louisiana nursing facilities.
There is no charge for this event, but registration is required.
